Kenya and Nigeria deepfake (Jan 2025)

Dozens of AI-generated videos depicting Donald Trump making various statements have circulated on social media in Kenya and Nigeria. In Kenya, a deepfake video of Trump threatening to withhold U.S. aid went viral on TikTok and X. In Nigeria, videos showed Trump announcing changes to U.S.-Nigeria immigration policy and calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, threatening aid withdrawal if Kanu wasn't released by November 31, 2024. Both videos contained inconsistencies like mismatched lip movements, and claims were unsubstantiated.
