On October 24, 2026, a Facebook user shared an image claiming to show a massive gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters at a political rally for President Bola Tinubu in Kaduna State. Despite the user's assertion that the photo was authentic, the image was identified as a product of artificial intelligence.
What happened
The image, shared by user Yomi Osoba, featured a densely packed crowd holding APC flags with a caption explicitly denying the use of AI. However, visual forensic analysis and AI detection tools confirmed the image was fake. The FactCheckHub identified several structural anomalies in the image, including headless or merged figures and a complete lack of human facial features. Furthermore, the image lacked essential rally infrastructure such as a podium, sound equipment, or an elevated stage, all of which were present in authentic footage from the actual event held that day.
Additional visual inconsistencies included uniform lighting with no natural shadows and flags positioned at identical angles and heights, which contrasted sharply with the diverse arrangements seen in genuine photographs from the rally. To confirm these findings, the image was subjected to digital forensic analysis. Both ZeroGPT and DeepAI returned a 99% likelihood that the image was AI-generated. The FactCheckHub concluded that the claim was false, noting that the image was artificially created rather than captured at the political event.
