What happened

Yuvraj Singh filed a lawsuit against the unauthorized use of his identity, noting that multiple social media accounts were disseminating AI-generated content that placed him in fabricated and fictional scenarios. According to his counsel, this content included religiously insensitive posts, videos depicting aggressive or violent behavior toward other cricketers, and material containing vulgar or abusive language.

Justice Jyoti Singh, presiding over the case, characterized Yuvraj as a globally renowned figure whose stature grants him exclusive proprietary rights over his personality attributes. The court determined that the misuse of these attributes—specifically through deepfake technology—was actively damaging the cricketer's reputation and goodwill earned over his 17-year career.

In its decision, the court directed Meta Platforms and other online entities to remove the offending content immediately. The judge emphasized that those violating the privacy and personality rights of public figures must be dealt with a heavy hand. This legal action follows a trend of high-profile individuals, including actors and other public figures, seeking similar judicial protections from the unauthorized exploitation of their digital personas.
