What happened

The suspect, identified as Dieon Love, posed as a delivery driver at the retail store. To facilitate the theft, he utilized a fake, AI-generated Spark order document in an attempt to depart the premises with a Nintendo Switch and other electronics. Although store loss prevention personnel immediately flagged the fraud, Love persisted in his attempt to leave with the items. An off-duty police officer present at the scene intervened and detained the suspect until local authorities arrived to make an arrest.

Police Chief Jeffrey Hadley characterized the event as a new horizon for the department, noting that while AI tools offer benefits for automation, they are increasingly being leveraged by criminals to create fake requisitions, orders, and QR codes.
