What happened
The app was used to create fake nude images of schoolgirls in Almendralejo, Spain, and Westfield High School in New Jersey. In Spain, a mother discovered explicit images of her 14-year-old daughter circulating in a WhatsApp group. The images were so realistic that she initially questioned their authenticity. Some girls in Almendralejo experienced panic attacks, refused to attend school, and were subjected to bullying. The app, which invites users to “undress anyone using AI”, can be accessed via smartphone for a fee, and has garnered millions of visits. An investigation revealed potential links between individuals in Belarus and Russia and the app's development.
