A resident of Dindayal Nagar, Pravirkumar Talukdar, was coerced into transferring over 1 crore rupees after being targeted by a sophisticated digital arrest scam. The attackers utilized advanced synthesis techniques to impersonate law enforcement officials and manipulate the victim into compliance.

What happened

The incident began when Pravirkumar Talukdar received a phone call from an individual claiming to be a police commissioner. The deception intensified when a second caller, posing as an NIA officer named Pradeep Jaiswal, contacted the victim to further escalate the situation. To solidify the ruse, the fraudsters initiated a video call where they displayed the photograph of a senior IPS officer, Vishwas Nangare Patil, to maintain the illusion of authority.

Under the pressure of this "digital arrest," Talukdar was forced to transfer Rs 1.04 crore via RTGS. The Nagpur Cyber Police investigation into this and related incidents led to the arrest of four individuals, including Dinesh Avabhai Ravaria and Arvind Kanji Gala. Authorities have emphasized the importance of verifying the identity of callers claiming to be officials before initiating any financial transactions.
