An image circulating on social media falsely claimed to depict a large crowd at the 'Chalo Dilli' rally held by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on 1 November. The image was presented as authentic evidence of the event's scale, but investigation confirmed it was entirely synthetic.

What happened

The viral image was identified as fraudulent through a multi-layered verification process. A reverse image search conducted via Google Lens failed to locate any credible news reports or official sources featuring the photograph, casting immediate doubt on its authenticity. To confirm the nature of the content, the image was subjected to several AI detection tools. Hive Moderation flagged the image as 99.9 percent likely to be AI-generated, and Sightengine provided similar results, indicating a high probability of synthetic origin. Furthermore, the SynthID Detector identified a watermark, concluding that the content was generated or edited using OpenAI tools. These findings confirmed that the image was not an authentic photograph from the 'Chalo Dilli' rally, but rather a fabricated visual intended to misrepresent the political gathering.
