UK-based voice-over artist Faye Dicker reported that her voice had been cloned and sold online without her permission. According to reports, her voice was downloaded on the Fish Audio platform more than 900 times.

What happened

Fish Audio, a startup that builds AI models for creators and enterprises, allows users to submit voice samples for training purposes. While the company compensates users whose voices are utilized, the platform faced controversy after creators alleged their voices were uploaded without consent. Faye Dicker identified that her voice was among those being used on the platform.

At the time of the incident, Fish Audio maintained a DMCA content take-down process to address unauthorized uploads, though creators noted that the removal process was initially time-consuming. CEO Risa Cao stated that the company has since automated the take-down process, allowing creators to submit a voice sample or contract to prove ownership. According to the company, this updated process can remove unauthorized voice models from the platform in less than 3 minutes.
