Doublespeed, an a16z-backed startup, was hacked, revealing its use of a phone farm to manage AI-generated social media accounts promoting products, often without proper disclosure. The hacker gained control of over 1,000 smartphones and reported the vulnerability to Doublespeed on October 31st but maintained access at the time of the report. This constitutes a deepfake attack in the sense that AI-generated content is used to deceive users for promotional purposes.
