Japanese police reported 79 cases of deepfakes targeting individuals up to age 17 between January and September of this year. In 53.2% of these cases, the deepfakes were created by students from the same schools as the victims. Generative AI was confirmed to be used in 14 cases, and image-editing apps in 2 cases. The remaining cases are believed to be AI-generated.
