What happened

Following a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of 2,800 grams of marijuana, ecstasy pills, cash, and drug paraphernalia, the department posted a photo of the evidence online. Social media users quickly flagged the image, noting that elements appeared to be AI-generated. The sheriff’s office subsequently released a statement confirming that AI tools were used to edit the photo, specifically to clean up the background of the patrol room where the image was captured.

While the department maintained that the edits were intended only to remove debris from a file cabinet, comparisons between the original and edited images revealed visible changes to the evidence laid out on a conference table.
