A deepfake video falsely claiming to show the aftermath of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2024 circulated on social media. The video, created using AI tools such as Runway and MINIMAX Hailuo AI, showed damaged roads, buildings, and a fire. Inconsistencies in the video, such as stationary people amidst moving fire, and discrepancies with actual footage from the ground, exposed it as a deepfake. The false narrative spread across multiple countries.
