In January 2024, tens of thousands of Democratic voters received a robocall featuring an AI-generated voice impersonating President Biden, urging them not to vote in the New Hampshire primaries. This incident, orchestrated by Steven Kramer and Paul Carpenter (who used ElevenLabs), led to Kramer's $6 million fine and charges for impersonating a candidate and voter suppression, and a $1 million fine for Lingo Telecom.
