Cybercriminals in Vietnam used deepfake technology to create realistic fake videos of victims and used them for extortion. Victims were threatened with the release of these videos unless they paid a ransom. In one incident, a criminal organization blackmailed entrepreneurs and celebrities, demanding hundreds of millions of đồng. Another incident involved a high school girl who was blackmailed for VNĐ50 million ($2,000).
