In December 2025, a Singaporean administrative assistant named Luke discovered that a former schoolmate had been circulating a series of AI-generated images depicting them as a couple with a child. The situation caused significant distress for Luke and his family, as the perpetrator also manipulated photos of his young relatives to create a false narrative of their personal lives.
What happened
Luke first learned of the fabrication when friends alerted his sister to social media posts showing him with a woman claiming to be his fiancée and a child she described as theirs. The woman, a schoolmate Luke had barely interacted with 15 years prior, produced a wide array of manipulated content, including AI-generated scenes of the pair on dates and during their school years, as well as images implying she was pregnant. Furthermore, the perpetrator used photographs of Luke’s six-month-old nephew and one-year-old niece, inserting herself into these images to present them as her own children.
After Luke’s sister shared the ordeal on Threads in June 2026, receiving over 12,000 likes, several individuals contacted the family claiming the same woman had impersonated Luke online for years to befriend others. A clinical psychologist noted that the behavior suggested delusional thinking and a desire to construct a fantasy relationship. While the sister attempted to contact the woman to demand the removal of the images, she received no response. Luke has since lodged a police report and has been advised by lawyers that he may seek protection under the Protection from Harassment Act, which covers impersonation, false online claims, and the creation of AI-generated imagery. Both Luke and his sister have made their social media accounts private to prevent further misuse of their photos.
