In June 2026, a man identified as Luke discovered that a former schoolmate had been maintaining a years-long obsessive fantasy by using generative AI to fabricate a fake life together. The stalker, who had barely interacted with Luke during their school years, created a public narrative that they had been a couple since 2011, were engaged, and shared a child.

What happened

The stalker utilized AI tools to create a deepfake-driven reality, producing images of herself and Luke on dates and pictures of him holding their supposed newborn child. The deception extended beyond static images; the perpetrator sent out wedding invitations for a planned December ceremony and even ordered a cake from a local bakery for their imaginary baby. To further validate the delusion, she used the AI-generated photos to attempt to add Luke’s sister’s friends on social media.

The situation escalated when the stalker began incorporating real photos of Luke’s sister’s children into her fabrications. This unauthorized use of family imagery left Luke and his sister deeply concerned about their privacy and safety, leading them to stop posting photos of the children online. Luke only became aware of the extensive campaign when his sister was alerted to the posts by a friend, prompting her to document the ordeal on Threads. The incident highlights how generative AI can be weaponized to fuel obsessive delusions, turning private individuals into unwitting participants in a stranger's fabricated life.
