Following a series of tour delays, local businesses in New Hampshire generated and shared AI images of rapper Lil Wayne appearing at various community locations. While intended as a lighthearted joke, the synthetic content contributed to widespread confusion among fans waiting for the artist's performance at the BankNH Pavilion.
What happened
After Lil Wayne failed to appear at a scheduled tour stop in Maine, businesses in Gilford and Concord began posting AI-generated photos of the rapper appearing at local establishments to satirize his absence. The images showed Lil Wayne in various scenarios, including sitting in an oversized chair at the Gilford Country Store, flashing a peace sign at a local pub, and sampling ice cream at a dairy bar. Other posts placed him at gyms and farms in the area.
These images were shared widely on social media, leading some fans to believe the rapper was actually in the vicinity while he was significantly late for his performance. The confusion was compounded when attendees at the concert, already frustrated by the delay, encountered further misleading content, such as a photo of a friend purportedly sitting next to the rapper in a car. The actual artist did not take the stage until nearly 11 p.m., just before the venue's legal curfew, leaving many fans disappointed and disgruntled due to the lack of communication and the prevalence of the viral AI imagery.
