An AI-generated video of Keir Starmer, designed to be Islamophobic, circulated widely on social media, garnering hundreds of thousands of views. The video was created and posted by a devout Muslim man living in Pakistan, who runs multiple accounts pushing similar content to UK audiences.

What happened

The AI-generated video depicted a likeness of Keir Starmer in Islamic dress making offensive statements. The creator admitted to earning around $1,500 a month from one Facebook page alone by posting such videos. He claimed a lack of understanding due to poor English, but the content was visually Islamophobic. The individual used AI tools to generate the videos and repurposed content from other platforms, highlighting how easily divisive content can be produced and monetized. The posts targeted Keir Starmer and Sadiq Khan, and turned a profit via Meta's ad revenue model. Meta deleted some of the accounts after they were flagged.
