Metalcore band Beartooth pulled a planned lyric video from release on June 19, 2026, after discovering that the artist they commissioned had misled them regarding the use of artificial intelligence. The band took the action just hours before the clip was scheduled to go live, citing a commitment to human creativity.
What happened
Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo explained on social media that the band had been alerted to concerns regarding the video after posting a teaser. Despite the band asking the commissioned artist multiple times throughout the project whether AI was being used, the artist adamantly denied it. Following further conversations and the identification of red flags, the band confirmed that the video was indeed created using AI.
Shomo stated that the band has no interest in utilizing AI, particularly when artists lie about its inclusion, as it undermines the effort put into their music. To resolve the issue, the band enlisted Luke, Shomo's brother and the artist behind the album art, to create a replacement video. The new single, titled "Bulls**t," was released as scheduled, and the band emphasized their support for human-made art.
