AI-generated advertisements intended to recruit election judges were posted online by the Baltimore County and Baltimore City Boards of Elections. The ads, which contained noticeable errors, led some voters to question the accuracy of election information.

What happened

Several AI-generated recruiting advertisements appeared on social media. Voters quickly noticed errors, such as a Maryland flag with incorrect patterns in a Baltimore County ad, and a man with a "thumbs up" emerging from his stomach in another. One Baltimore City ad featured a child with three hands, another a woman with six fingers, and another a woman with misaligned eyes. The Baltimore County Board of Elections, which prohibits AI-generated material, removed its posts and guaranteed it would not happen again. The Baltimore City Board of Elections, which requires peer review of AI-generated content, deleted its posts because protocol was not followed.
