Over 35,000 mentions of nonconsensual intimate imagery (NCII) targeting primarily female members of Congress were found on deepfake websites. The American Sunlight Project (ASP) found that women in Congress are 70 times more likely to be targeted than men. While most imagery was quickly removed after researchers contacted the affected lawmakers, the material can be easily re-shared. The impact extends beyond politics, with high school girls also being targeted. The lack of federal legislation poses risks to national security.
