A deepfake pornography chatroom with 1200 participants, active since 2020, was discovered on Telegram in August 2024. The chatroom contained sexually explicit deepfake images and videos. Similar chatrooms were found connected to universities, schools, and military units. Users migrated to other encrypted messaging apps (Signal, SimpleX Chat, Viber) after Telegram cooperated with authorities.
