- U.S. Presidents
A high school staff member reported the presence of suspicious, likely AI-generated portraits of U.S. Presidents displayed within a classroom. The images, which included depictions of figures such as Franklin D. Roosevelt, Barack Obama, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Herbert Hoover, and George H.W. Bush, displayed numerous visual inconsistencies that raised concerns about their authenticity.
What happened
The images were flagged for several distinct indicators of artificial intelligence synthesis. Observational reports noted "uncanny" and overly shiny skin textures, as well as structurally impossible background elements. Specifically, the Roosevelt portrait featured floating battleships and malfunctioning airplane propellers, while the Obama image utilized a generic stock photo of the White House and contained garbled, non-lexical text in the background. The Eisenhower depiction was noted to bear a stronger resemblance to Joe Biden, and the image of George H.W. Bush was accompanied by a quote for which no public record exists. Other identified errors included soldiers appearing to walk on the heads of other figures and general spatial incoherence. These findings highlight the challenges of identifying AI-generated content in educational environments, where students and staff must grapple with the increasing prevalence of synthetic misinformation in media.
