Three teenage girls have filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, claiming that its chatbot Grok generated sexually explicit images of them without their consent. The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to prevent Grok from producing such imagery.
What happened
Grok users reportedly manipulated photos and videos of the teenagers to depict them nude or in sexually explicit acts. One plaintiff discovered altered images, including her high school yearbook photo, on a private Discord server. The lawsuit alleges that xAI designed Grok's image-altering features, including 'Grok Imagine' or 'spicy mode' with an 'undress' function, to drive platform usage. The complaint describes the altered images as 'a rag doll brought to life through the dark arts.' Following the incident, the individual behind the Discord server has been arrested. The case raises questions about the ethical use of AI and the responsibility of tech companies to prevent abuse.
