Senior U.S. government officials and their associates deepfake (May 2025)

Cyber campaign using AI-generated voice and text messages to impersonate senior U.S. government officials to deceive victims into giving up sensitive personal information and account access. Attackers use smishing and vishing, spoofed numbers, AI voices, and personal photos pulled from public sources. Once trust is established, they urge the victim to switch to another platform that may contain malware or direct them to fake login pages to steal credentials.
