Law firms representing former Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey used AI to generate legal citations in a lawsuit against State Farm, submitting briefs with false, inaccurate, and misleading legal citations. Approximately nine of 27 citations in a ten-page brief were incorrect, with at least two authorities cited not existing and several quotes being misattributed. The law firms, K&L Gates and Ellis George LLP, were sanctioned and ordered to pay $31,100.
