Golf influencer Paige Spiranac recently addressed a viral social media post that appears to have misappropriated her likeness and athletic movements. The incident highlights the growing prevalence of AI-generated content being used to replicate the personal brands of public figures without consent.
What happened
On July 5, 2025, a video circulated on X featuring a digitally generated woman mimicking a golf swing. The character in the video was depicted wearing an outfit similar to those often worn by Spiranac, specifically a Florida Gators cap paired with an orange top and teal shorts. The post, which garnered 850,000 views, was captioned with the phrase, "Go Gators."
Spiranac, who boasts four million followers on Instagram, identified the content as a clear instance of digital manipulation. Upon being alerted to the video, she responded the following day, stating that the creators had taken her exact swing video and superimposed an AI-generated figure over it.
This incident is not the first time the influencer has had to clarify the authenticity of media associated with her. Shortly before this event, she was forced to address claims that a festive Fourth of July photograph was AI-generated. Spiranac clarified that the image was a legitimate photo from her 2026 calendar, noting that a graphic designer had simply added the background during post-production. The use of deepfake or AI-synthesis technology to co-opt the physical motions and branding of influencers like Spiranac raises ongoing concerns regarding digital identity and content ownership.
