On September 13, 2026, an image circulating on the social media platform X falsely depicted Natalie Harp with significantly altered facial features. The manipulated photo, shared by the account @OurShallowState, showed Harp with elongated teeth and exposed gums, accompanied by a post comparing her appearance to a creature from the film Alien.
What happened
A visual comparison between the viral post and original photography reveals that the image was digitally altered. A reverse image search confirmed that the base photo was taken during a trip to Ireland on September 12, 2026, where Harp was wearing a green turtleneck dress. A genuine version of the photograph, published by the Daily Beast, shows Harp with a natural, relaxed smile where only her upper teeth and a minimal amount of gumline are visible.
Technical analysis indicates that the manipulation involved more than simple editing. AI tools were used to elongate the teeth and shift the position of the nose and chin to accommodate the fabricated, exaggerated smile. When the altered image was submitted to the AI-generated content detection tool Hive Moderation, it returned a 99.9% probability that the content was AI-generated, confirming that the image was not an authentic representation of the subject.
