What happened

On July 15, 2025, a Facebook page named PolPolitika published a video appearing to show Romualdez being interviewed while on a ship. In the clip, the figure claimed it was impossible for him to have approved specific budgets and directly challenged Senators Vicente Sotto III, Panfilo Lacson, and the Tulfo brothers to invite him to hearings regarding alleged corruption in flood control projects. The video gained significant traction, garnering over 2,100 reactions and 1,700 shares, with many users believing the statements were genuine.

Fact-checkers determined the content was AI-generated. Testing with detection tools provided high-confidence results: detectvideo.ai identified a 64% likelihood of AI generation, while Humantext.pro flagged the content with a 72% rating. Furthermore, no credible media outlets reported that Romualdez ever made these statements. While the actual Romualdez has been implicated in real-world corruption allegations—including being tagged as a central figure in a flood control scandal by the Office of the Ombudsman—he has consistently denied these claims and did not issue the specific challenge captured in the synthetic video.
