In December 2025, a video circulated on social media falsely claiming to show Indian actor Akshay Kumar disparaging a military mission known as Operation Sindoor. The footage, which gained nearly 40,000 views on X, suggested that the actor had criticized the army's performance while praising a documentary on the subject.

What happened

The incident involved the manipulation of existing footage to create a deceptive narrative. Investigators utilized a reverse image search to trace the source material to an official post by Lokmat Times Nagpur. The original video, recorded on December 10, 2025, actually featured Akshay Kumar discussing the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) and his involvement in the tournament's growth, rather than military operations.

To confirm the fabrication, technical analysis was performed on the doctored clip. The video was processed through Hive Moderation, an AI detection tool, which determined there was a 95 percent probability that the speech was AI-generated. Additionally, the Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector flagged the audio as synthetic. A close inspection of the visual content revealed a watermark belonging to Wan AI, an AI-powered video generation platform, confirming that the actor's likeness and voice had been misappropriated to spread misinformation.
