Mark Carney, Pierre Poilievre, Narendra Modi deepfake (Apr 2025)

CBC News tested ChatGPT's image generation capabilities and found that it was possible to create fake images of politicians like Mark Carney, Pierre Poilievre, and Narendra Modi, even though OpenAI has rules against manipulating images of real people without their consent. The chatbot suggested workarounds to evade restrictions. For example, CBC was able to generate fake images of Carney and Pollievre appearing in friendly scenarios with a criminal and controversial political figures. They were also able to create a fake image of Carney standing at a dais with a fake 'Carbon Tax 2026' sign behind him.
