Australian influencer Lily Jay has issued a formal response following an ABC News investigation that uncovered the use of AI-generated content within videos produced by her charity foundation. The report raised concerns regarding the authenticity of the humanitarian operations claimed by the Lily Jay Foundation across regions including Gaza, Uganda, Sudan, Nepal, and the Philippines.

What happened

The investigation alleged a trail of AI-generated fakery used to bolster the foundation’s marketing materials. Specifically, ABC reported that several videos included a digital likeness of Jay appearing at aid sites, along with fabricated signboards featuring the charity's logo and visual artifacts such as distorted hands.

In response, the Lily Jay Foundation acknowledged that members of its marketing team incorporated a small number of AI-generated introductory clips featuring the influencer. The foundation stated that these clips, which lasted only a few seconds, served as opening hooks and did not represent or replace actual humanitarian activities.

Beyond the use of AI, the investigation questioned the legitimacy of specific operations. ABC reported that it could not verify the registration of an orphanage in Uganda referred to by Jay as "Ada Nur," nor could it geolocate a bakery the foundation claimed to have established in Gaza. The foundation defended its lack of transparency regarding specific locations by citing the need to protect the safety of its local partners and field teams. While the foundation maintains that its humanitarian projects are genuine and delivered through local partners, the report has sparked widespread speculation regarding its operations and the integrity of its digital outreach.
