A South Korean YouTuber is accused of using AI-generated content to defame actor Kim Soo-hyun and fuel a scandal that ended his career. Police are seeking an arrest warrant for the YouTuber.

What happened

The YouTuber allegedly manipulated screenshots of text messages and shared an AI-generated audio file to create the impression that Kim Soo-hyun had dated actress Kim Sae-ron when she was underage. The allegations surfaced after Kim Sae-ron's death. The YouTuber posted a voice recording in which the actress appeared to say she had been dating Kim Soo-hyun since middle school, along with manipulated screenshots of text messages. Authorities allege the voice recording was AI-generated and the screenshots were altered. The YouTuber allegedly spread the false claims for financial gain, causing significant damage to Kim Soo-hyun's career and mental health. The actor has not made any official public appearances since the scandal broke, and the release of a Disney+ series he was working on has been postponed.
