On August 20, 2026, Donald Trump utilized the Truth Social platform to share an AI-generated image targeting his predecessor, Joe Biden. The post appeared following a policy announcement regarding the pause of tariffs against Canada and potential discussions surrounding the Keystone XL Pipeline.

What happened

The AI-generated image features a depiction of Donald Trump pulling the Keystone pipeline out of the ground. In the scene, a tombstone is visible with the inscription "Buried by Biden." A secondary banner in the image promotes the project with the text: "Keystone Pipeline. Completely Free. Energy, Jobs. America First."

Trump’s post accompanied an announcement that the United States had paused 50 percent tariffs against Canada, suggesting a deal that could revive the Keystone XL Pipeline, which had been shut down in January 2021. The pipeline project was originally halted by TC Energy following executive orders from Biden, a move based on environmental concerns. At the time of the initial shutdown, critics such as Andy Black, CEO of the Association of Oil Pipelines, argued that the decision negatively impacted employment and payroll. This instance continues a pattern of Trump sharing AI-generated content on social media, including previous examples such as an AI video depicting him providing a tour of the White House to George Washington.
