Reports of 'sexual deepfakes' created using generative AI are increasing in Japan. Victims are primarily junior high and high school students, and in many cases, the perpetrators are fellow students. The deepfakes involve manipulating photos of the victims into sexual images, which are then distributed. One case involved a male junior high school student using generative AI to alter images of a female student from social media into nude images and selling them to other students. In another case, a high school student provided images of a female classmate to a man who altered them and posted them on social media.
