In June 2026, the disappearance of Gracie the giraffe from Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County, Texas, triggered a wave of synthetic media across the internet. While authorities and the owner continue the search for the real animal, online users and local businesses have utilized artificial intelligence to generate speculative sightings of the giraffe in various locations across the state.

What happened

Gracie was last seen on a game camera west of Leakey, Texas, after vanishing from her home ranch. As the search intensified, the public began creating and sharing AI-generated imagery featuring the giraffe in diverse, imaginative scenarios. In El Paso, AI images depicted Gracie touring the historic San Elizario, including a photo opportunity at the Presidio Chapel. The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department joined the trend by sharing a synthetic image of the giraffe serving as a probationary firefighter, jokingly claiming she was assisting with roof inspections and aerial observations.

Beyond social media humor, local businesses began incorporating AI-generated depictions of Gracie into their marketing efforts. A soap shop in Texas posted an image of the giraffe visiting their storefront, while an electric and plumbing company based in Schulenburg shared a generated photo showing the animal peering out of the back of a company work van. Despite the proliferation of these AI-generated sightings, official reports from June 25, 2026, confirm that the real Gracie has not been found. The Real County Sheriff's Office continues to manage the search, with a $5,000 reward offered for information leading to her safe return. Anyone with genuine information regarding her location is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 830-232-5201.
