A user seeking employment on Indeed encountered a fraudulent job posting for a customer service representative at a crypto exchange site. The posting, offering an attractive hourly wage, led the user to a Zoom call that appeared legitimate, followed by assessments and an offer of employment without a formal interview or training.

What happened

The user's primary task involved verifying orders and client identities. However, the orders were AI-generated, and the client IDs were likely stolen. The website experienced multiple outages, attributed to DDOS attacks. The user's initial paycheck was transferred to a fake crypto site. When the user attempted to transfer the funds, they were prompted to make a $400 deposit for "verification," which was flagged as suspicious by the payment platform, preventing the loss.
