Dhammika Perera deepfake (Feb 2025)

A deepfake video of Sri Lankan billionaire Dhammika Perera endorsing an investment platform promising high returns was circulated on Facebook. Deepfake detection tools flagged the video as a deepfake with high probability (80-94%). Inconsistencies in facial movements, unnatural lip-syncing, distortions, and mismatched speech patterns were identified. The video promoted an investment scheme promising to double an initial investment of 75,000 LKR to 150,000 LKR in one week.
