In September 2026, it was revealed that a photograph originally taken at a 2024 Lunar New Year dinner had been digitally manipulated for official university advertising. The AI-driven edits included changing students' clothing into Stanford-branded merchandise, slimming the faces of two individuals, and entirely replacing the race, gender, and appearance of one student. Billy Ramirez, a student identified in the original photo, discovered that he had been effectively removed from the image and replaced by an AI-generated figure.
