In June 2026, the official White House Instagram page associated with former US President Barack Obama was hacked. The attackers posted unauthorized content, including an AI-generated image.
What happened
The breach was discovered after unusual posts surfaced on the account, which operates under the handle @obamawhitehouse. The most prominent unauthorized post was an AI-generated image accompanied by a caption that translated to "The White House is under Shiites' control." The hacker also posted new Instagram stories on the account, which had remained dormant since January 20, 2017. Meta confirmed the incident and stated that the account has since been secured, with all unauthorized content removed. Obama maintains a separate personal Instagram account, which was not affected.
