A viral image shared on social media claimed to show men carrying placards at a "Mard March" in response to the Aurat March protests. However, the image is AI-generated and the claim is false.
What happened
The image, posted on Facebook in May 2026, depicted a man holding a poster with an inflammatory message, surrounded by other men with "Mard March" posters. An investigation revealed several indicators of AI generation, including inconsistent blurring, duplicated facial features, artificial lighting, and distorted hands. The language on the placards was also incoherent. An AI detection tool confirmed that the image was 99% AI-generated. Furthermore, while a "Mard March" did occur in 2019 as a satirical counter-protest, no such event took place in 2026.
