A user on Facebook Marketplace was scammed after attempting to purchase a laptop. The victim found a listing for a used Macbook Pro and communicated with the seller for three days, who provided photos, videos, and a receipt.

What happened

The seller claimed to be stuck in traffic on the day of the meetup and requested the money be sent via Cash App as "friends and family" with the promise of delivering the laptop later. After the payment of $720 cleared, the seller blocked the victim and never delivered the laptop. The victim reported the incident to their bank and the local police, but was informed that Cash App "friends and family" payments are difficult to reverse. The listing was later found on a different account.
