On July 26, 2026, a report surfaced regarding an individual in India being targeted by an illegal loan application identified as CreditCalc. After taking a loan of ₹13,000, the victim was subjected to aggressive demands for repayment of ₹25,000 within one week, accompanied by persistent harassment and severe threats.
What happened
The perpetrators, operating through international WhatsApp numbers, have engaged in a campaign of intimidation against the borrower. The threats include the creation and dissemination of AI-generated deepfake nude photos and videos of the victim and their family to the victim's personal contacts. Beyond digital extortion, the attackers have threatened to leak personal information, issued death threats, and threatened to burn down the victim's residence. The victim has reported the activity to the local Cyber Cell and is currently preserving evidence, including screenshots, chat logs, and payment records, while seeking guidance on how to manage the ongoing harassment from the unregistered entity.
