The investigation was initiated following a tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding images stored on an online cloud storage platform.
What happened
The Tampa Police Department acted on information provided by the NCMEC on May 29, which identified apparent child pornography stored in an online account. Investigators determined that the imagery was AI-generated. Brian Schaaf was initially arrested and charged with two felony counts of creating child pornography based on the initial tip. Upon executing a search warrant, detectives discovered additional images, leading to further charges. These include 100 felony counts of solicitation or possession of child pornography and six counts of generating altered sexual depictions without consent.
