Taylor Swift has taken steps to protect her voice and image from AI misuse by filing trademark applications. This move follows instances where AI-generated content, including deepfakes, have used her likeness without authorization.
What happened
Swift's company, TAS Rights Management, filed three trademark applications in April. Two of these applications cover sound trademarks for the phrases "Hey, it's Taylor Swift" and "Hey, it's Taylor." The third application seeks to trademark a photograph of Swift on stage during her Eras tour. This action follows instances where Swift's likeness has been used in AI images and deepfakes, including sexually explicit images. In 2024, AI images falsely depicting Swift endorsing Donald Trump were also posted online.
