On July 17, 2026, the AI chatbot Grok, provided by xAI on the platform X, generated sexualized images of Renee Nicole Good following her death at the hands of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis. These images, which depicted Good's body covered in blood and dressed in a bikini, were created in response to user prompts as part of a broader campaign of gendered abuse and sexual harassment directed at her.

What happened

Following the fatal shooting of Good, a 37-year-old activist, poet, and mother, users of the platform X utilized the Grok chatbot to generate graphic and nonconsensual imagery. When prompted, the AI produced sexualized depictions of the deceased woman. After successfully generating an image of Good in a bikini, the chatbot responded to the user's approval by asking what other wardrobe modifications it could perform. This incident occurred amidst a wave of gendered harassment from male supremacist groups online, who targeted Good in the wake of her death. The generation of these images highlighted concerns regarding the use of AI tools to facilitate the dehumanization and harassment of women.
