Police in Calgary are reporting that the spread of AI-generated misinformation is actively obstructing the search for Parker, an 11-year-old non-verbal boy with autism who went missing from a north-end day home on July 16, 2026. As the search enters its fifth day, authorities warn that these digital fabrications are draining the resources necessary to locate the child.

What happened

The investigation has been complicated by the circulation of altered images and videos created using artificial intelligence. These synthetic files have been shared across online platforms, falsely claiming to depict Parker or providing inaccurate information regarding his current location. Among the most harmful pieces of misinformation was a false report alleging that the boy had been found dead.

Acting Staff Sgt. Scott Guterson clarified that police continue to treat the case as an active search for a living child. Despite the digital noise, investigators have maintained that foul play is not currently considered a factor in the disappearance. To counteract the impact of the AI-generated content, police are releasing verified CCTV footage of Parker in hopes that the public can provide genuine leads. Furthermore, investigators are requesting that residents of the Thorncliffe neighbourhood submit any video recorded on the afternoon of the disappearance, regardless of whether the boy appears in the footage, to assist in the official search efforts.
