- Muslims / Immigrants
AI-generated content is exploiting British nostalgia, with far-right groups reaping the rewards. Videos with sepia tones and vague allusions to the past evoke emotional connections, but can also be used to denigrate immigrants.
What happened
"AI slop" videos on platforms like Facebook present a rosy, pre-tech vision of Britain, often managed by accounts from outside the UK seeking monetization. These videos evoke nostalgic sentiments, but algorithms then promote content with more direct anti-immigrant messaging, targeting Muslims. For example, one video features an AI-generated milkman complaining about not being able to identify people due to Muslim face coverings. This content is amplified by AI-generated figures like Danny Bones, a skinhead rapper whose music promotes anti-immigrant views and is used by far-right groups.
