Mother in Florida deepfake (Aug 2025)

A mother in Florida received a panicked voice message from what sounded exactly like her daughter. The voice, a perfect AI clone, claimed to have been in a car crash that injured a pregnant woman. A man then came on the line, impersonating a public defender, and demanded $15,000 for bail. The mother, acting out of fear, gathered the cash and handed it to a courier. It was only when another call requested more money that her grandson realized it was a scam.
