In May 2026, a restaurant co-owner was charged with possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, some of which investigators say was produced using AI. The suspect faces dozens of charges.
What happened
Investigators traced uploads from the Kik app back to the suspect through email addresses and an IP address. Detectives allege the suspect shared images and videos involving young girls, some as young as 10, participated in online chat rooms, and in one instance discussed grooming a 15-year-old. Prosecutors also claim the suspect used AI to create sexualized images of minors, including one instance involving a photo of a mother and daughter. Some of the photos used to create the images were obtained from family members and friends.
